I usually write positive reviews, but my experience with Dr. Porter was frustrating. While the dental work turned out great—he matched my front crowns well—his attitude was problematic. When I arrived and informed them I wanted a different procedure, he threw what I can only describe as a tantrum, telling me to “go somewhere else” and appearing visibly upset. I realize I should have called in advance to change the 4-hour booking—that was my mistake and I will own that. Still, his outburst and guilt-tripping made the appointment uncomfortable. Though he later apologized, it felt insincere, and I left feeling more like an inconvenience than a valued patient.

Being a professional means more than being good at your craft, it means treating people with respect and dignity and Dr. Porter does not possess those skills in the slightest. A professional would have understood my position and worked WITH me to make me more comfortable and helped to address my qualms and reservations, certainly not shamed me into doing something for which I was not prepared.

Edit: Dr Porter called me today and offered a much more sincere apology. It takes a big person to own up to their mistakes and I truly believe he was acting out of character yesterday. He offered empathy and made sure I was feeling ok (both physically and mentally). I'm changing from a 2 star to a 4 star.

Thank you for reaching out.

This is a tough one. I went here for over 7 years (before the remodel). I really liked Dr. Porter at first, he actually spent time talking me through different options for procedures, and I had a ton of work done here due to an accident that caused a few teeth to be fractured. Over the years, I noticed I would wait longer and longer, often going in, and waiting 45 minutes to an hour past my appointment time to be seen. When I had questions about what was going on with my teeth or Invisalign trays I got very short condescending answers. Then on my last visit I informed that my insurance changed due to changing jobs, and they were super rude about it, which was my sign to find a new dentist. The front desk staff is awesome. And the dental hygienists are awesome, but unfortunately I think the Dentist is just taking on too much and not giving enough time to his current patients.

I am a newer patient to Avenues Dentistry and am very pleased with my experience so far. I've had routine cleanings and a filling replaced. The staff have all been extremely professional, communicative and attentive to my experience as a patient. I've seen Dr. Greg Johnson and he is an excellent clinician - he explains everything clearly, is patient with any questions you might have, and gentle when doing procedures. The office is clean and accessible.

I just want to shoutout the women doing the scheduling. They were extremely accommodating and super helpful. Going to the dentist can be stressful but the ladies in the office made it a much smoother process.

This dental clinic is more interested in over charging its patients to cover their bougie office remodels than they are about quality patient care. The doctor I saw was exceedingly rude and put out by my concerns about after tooth extraction pain management. He actually walked out of the room rather than addressing my concerns saying “it’s your body, do what you want.” I.e. I will perform a tooth extraction, but care zero for how it affects you. There were so many red flags surrounding the “medical treatment” I was about to receive that my terrible gut feeling overwhelmed my need for dental assistants and I ended the appointment without dental treatment. If you want to be over charged and treated badly in a freshly remodeled bougie setting then this clinic is for you. Patients beware!

I live about an hour away from these guys, but still drive to their office because they are so awesome. I probably pass 100 dentist offices on my drive to them, and it's worth it. Dr. Johnson is incredible at what he does (best dentist I've ever had), and his staff is amazing too! The office is very clean, organized and runs the way you want it too. They do book up fast (because they are that good), so make sure to book in advance! Easy five stars to give!

This place had a super nice waiting area. The staff were all super kind and caring. My teeth felt so good and clean after my visit!! No pain which I’ve experienced before at another dentistry’s. The dentist was very kind, and explained everything to me and let me know all my options moving forward. He also gave me great recommendations to where I can get my wisdom teeth removed. My experience was so good. I would recommend you to them but it’s to good I should keep it to myself haha.

I’ve loved my experience with Avenues Dentistry. It’s worth the drive to see them! Especially Christie, the Registered Dental Hygienist! She’s the best. She’s so gentle with my deep dental cleaning and kept the cleaning session interesting since she is very approachable and social. Everyone really - has been nothing but sweet to me. The place is so clean and they keep it so organized with appointment text reminders. Always willing to accommodate your schedule too. If you want an organized, clean, and caring dental office in Salt Lake City, this is your place. Unfortunately I am moving to a different state and won’t be able to come back again. Truly one of the things I’ll miss from SLC.
