I had a wonderful experience during my recent visit at Caldwell Dental Care. I went in for teeth cleaning and second opinion on Invisalign. Doctor Jay was incredibly patient and took the time to thoroughly explain every step of the process, which made me feel comfortable and informed. The staffs were also friendly and professional. I was happy with the result and I would recommend this office to anyone looking for excellent dental care!

Advocate for yourself and get a second opinion. I went for a routine cleaning and exam and left with a long list of cavities, gum problems and other procedures they said were needed. I also wanted to replace a lower permanent retainer and was told new molds and X rays were needed making the replacement over $500, I got it done by a local reputable orthodontist for $95. Throughout the exam they were upselling additional treatment like fluoride and when I asked if it was extra, Dr. Mina responded impolitely. I was concerned about having so many cavities as diagnosed by Dr. Mina and got two other dentist opinions (which I paid for) and both said I had no cavities. I haven’t had a cavity in over 20 years so I thought it was strange that I suddenly had so many after visiting Caldwell. Definitely get a second opinion and advocate for yourself. Unnecessary drilling and repairs in your mouth has financial and health consequences. The way I was responded to when questioning their diagnosis made me feel this is a for profit versus what is best for the patient business.

"Unnecessary Procedures and Poor Services - Not Recommended"

I was a regular patient at Caldwell Dental for a year because it was close by. However, my recent experience on 10/7 has completely changed my view. I visited due to a loose wisdom tooth, and Dr. Mina informed me I needed a 3D CAD scan before extraction—an additional $315 out-of-pocket expense not covered by insurance. Being my first extraction, I trusted that this scan was necessary and consented to it. The treatment plan also included sedation along with local anesthesia, which seemed excessive, but I trusted their guidance.

After discussing with family who had similar procedures without 3D scans or sedation, I began to question the necessity. I requested my records and was given only an incomplete X-ray (that didn’t even include the problem tooth) and no CAD scan file provided. A second opinion with another dentist confirmed my concerns: they extracted my tooth in two minutes with only an X-ray and local anesthesia, for just a $75 copay.

When I called Caldwell Dental to express my grievances and request a refund, Dr. Jay Um dismissed my concerns, stating he "holds himself to the highest standards." Instead of addressing my issues, he gaslighted me, suggesting that I should’ve known to refuse the procedure. He even hung up on me when I questioned whether this was a profit-driven approach.

If you value straightforward, necessary care, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. It feels like they prioritize upselling unnecessary procedures over patient care. So disappointing and frustrating.
