I recently moved here in Arizona and having had good experience with dental schools in Connecticut I thought I would try Carrington college dental hygeine. When I called to make an appointment, the scheduling lady told me, that if I canceled the appointment, I would not be allowed ro reschedule. This immediately set up a red flag. I found later in the week that I needed to reschedule and I called and spoke with rude lady she raised her voice at me saying the student is going to get 0 because of me. Poor student! Carrington needs to replace this rude women because she is ruining their reputation. But that is there problem. The schools that I've been to in Connecticut, are very professional. They were always very accommodating and very thankful that we came as a patient. Dealing with the lady i spoke to is like walking barefoot on broken glass. So be aware that your likely to encounter ? the same horrible experience that I did when dealing with her. Big Big 0.

Hello! I am a student at the Carrington college hygiene program. I just wanted to write a review to those who wanted a FREE dental exam/X-rays/cleaning. We are students competing your appointment so it will take of couple of appointments, depending on your oral exam and history or depending on your diagnosis Appointments are also usually from 8-11am or 1-4pm. We always appreciate those who come in to support of education! The reason for the strict no cancellation policy is because the students will get a bad grade for the day if there is a no show. Ms. Lakefield does an amazing job to let all patient know about all the details when scheduling your appointments, so everyone will be aware of it all 🙂 Schedule your appointment today if you are interested in bettering your oral health!!

I’m sad to say I read the reviews after the experience. The first dental hygienist student was amazing and did her work with great care and timing. Her name is Audrey and if you get any future care with her then you are in good hands. I have chosen her because of her great care and wanted my father to have that. The angry lady that every one brings up in the reviews is the problem. I told her I wanted Audrey and she said I was not specific, which is not true. I work in healthcare myself and I’m very precise in what I requested. She acts like you are the one who did the error even though you don’t have access to their schedule. Someone else mention how she calls and in the voice messages she “confirmed the appointment”. That is not confirmation, not unless the person called back to verbally agree. I tried to call back to cancel the appointment, but the voicemail box was full so I couldn’t even leave a message. Including even if I call back there is still no answer. I have also complained about the rude front desk lady who calls herself the clinical manager to the director and all I was told was “ Thank you for your perspective. This is is noted and submitted.” That’s all! I have observed and trained under various healthcare management and I seen how they handle situations, but you can tell this “clinical manager” is not reprimanded. So she has this entitlement of being right 24/7 on her course of action with the patients and any patient representations. Out of curtesy I will attempt another call to cancel the appointment. Let hope we get lucky and actual receive an answer. Personally myself I have triage and taken many clinical calls before and scheduled for more than 10 clinics per day on top of running a clinic. It’s not that difficult to do this position, scheduling with running a clinic. If she was a true manager she would have led with great professionalism and kindness, not bigotry and condensation.

I’m a student at Carrington and I love it here! The teachers care so much and want us to succeed. Ms. Lakefield works so hard to make sure that we have a patient in our chair each clinic and we are so grateful for that. Our appointments are three hours each and knowing that we have such good patients willing to come in and let us learn on them is the best.

My family and I have benefitted from the services offered at Carrington’s dental clinic. The dental students and clinic staff are exceptional and the care rendered is of high quality.

I’d like to also commend Ms. Beth Lakefield for her outstanding management of the Clinic throughout the years that we’ve been attending. She’s professional, accommodating and highly efficient in handling the complicated scheduling for the clinic. She has a demanding job yet she consistently maintains excellent customer service standards. This clinic is a blessing for the community. Thank you.

I had a great experience with my cleaning when I went in earlier this year. I plan to go again later this year. Everyone was very professional and polite. The students did a great job cleaning my teeth. I look forward to my future cleanings at Carrington.

I shouldn’t have even tried to go in after reading the reviews. The lady with short blonde hair and cakey makeup at the front desk is running all the clients off and is unprofessional.

I signed up for an appt and was told that it was a cleaning. A few hours before my appt on the day of, I was looking up how far away the school was and after I knew that info, I came across some reviews that caught my eye. They were talking about doing x rays and various things in their appts outside of cleanings. As someone who hasn’t performed dental work, I don’t associate x rays and cleanings. At any other dentist I’ve been to, they don’t do the x rays every time and they will let you know specifically if your appointment has x-rays. The school doesn’t do this. They just tell you it is a cleaning and don’t say anything about the x rays. I have sensory issues and cannot get dental x rays. I have never had a dentist have an issue with this, they would at least just do the cleaning and no x rays rather than nothing at all.

I tried to call before I go to see if I can do the appt without x rays and no one answers the phone. This is a regular occurrence, it took a long game of phone tag for me to get the appt in the first place. I get to my appointment at the school and I ask the lady with short blonde hair and cakey makeup at the front desk if this is just for a cleaning or if I need to get x rays as well. She says it is both and that they wouldn’t be able to provide the standard of care without x rays. This is obviously bologna because I’ve worked with other dentists who have no issue and not ever dental hygiene appt even includes x rays. I tell her that if the x rays are mandatory, I will have to opt out and she responds “if you leave, the student will get a zero today” which is ridiculous. She is trying to guilt trip me into staying when the school didn’t give the proper information on the phone. I responded with “that’s on the school because they weren’t transparent about the appt” and she tried to respond to me that it was actually on me, but I was already walking out.

Back to the students getting zeros thing…if this is true, that is a terrible school practice. The students grade should not be dependent on a random person from the community showing up to an appt. If you go to a hair school and your client doesn’t show up, they have other things for you to do so you can still have participation points for the day. This school should be no different. I’m sure what actually happens is that the student gets a zero for today and they have infinite opportunities to make that up. Which makes the statement misleading and unprofessional from short blonde hair cakey makeup lady.

Take my experience as proof that all the bad reviews are true and the same lady is still working at the front desk.

This is the blanket response they give everyone back: “Hi customer name, we care about your experience and are very sorry it has been a negative one. We have forwarded your feedback to campus management for review and follow up.”

^obviously they aren’t actually following up because if so, they would’ve hired someone who doesn’t run the clients off. Apparently they don’t care that the front desk lady doesnt understand sensory issues and doesn’t want to provide dental services to people with exceptionalities under reasonable circumstances.

Firstly, I will go back to the beginning of my experience with Carrington, which dates back to the first week of December 2023, I called 3 times and left 2 messages before hearing back from anyone on the 11th. Later I understood her name to be Beth. Secondly, Beth stated that she didn't have any other message from me, aside from the 2nd one. She then told me that they no longer refer patients to Midwestern because they don't send the patients back for their cleaning. Thirdly, after that she curtly and with an unwelcoming if not unpleasant tone, told me about their time requirements and cancellation policy. If time is a challenge because she has to answer (as stated by the Clinic Director) 10 more incoming calls, I would think she doesn't have time to share details like that about another school. Fourthly, I didn't appreciate an insinuation that I would have lied about leaving two messages versus one. What would be the point? Next, I have no qualms with policies as they are made for a reason, however being rude or curt while stating them is completely unnecessary and may eventually result in similar behavior being returned which is ultimately what happened for me when I called back yesterday. Fifthly, the student I met with (Amy) had told me at the end of our first appointment that the next one, which was for the cleaning, would only take about 1 hour. I was surprised that it would be so short but when I came in for that appointment and asked Beth if I could verify what Amy had said about the timing. Beth came back with her standard 1-415 lingo. So, I let her know that the student had stated it would be shorter and I just wanted to check, if possible, to which I continued to receive the same "unpleasantness" from Beth. Sixthly, when I met with Amy, I asked her the same question, but this time she stated the exact same thing Beth said, 1-415. Interesting and confusing. Why now is she changing from the one hour she had stated the last time to the 1-415 lingo. I have a couple of ideas about that... one is I had let her know that I had sent in an email to a B Chavez regarding my prior interaction with Beth. With this being Amy's final rotation before graduating, who is she going to "back"? The patient? Or Beth, the Clinic Manager and B Chavez, the Clinic Director? Lastly and the worst part of all for me, was the email I received today from Brenda Chavez, the Clinic Director. Where she stated there were no messages prior to this week, that I had complained about how long the appointment was going to take, which I absolutely never did, and that I need to go elsewhere in the future. This all brings me to the other idea or reason for why Amy did what she did and possibly to explain the attitude that Beth exudes to clients and apparently may also extend to Brenda, is that I think they are accustomed to/expect people to give them flack for both their time requirements and their cancellation policy. Based on the response from the Clinic Director about what did or didn't take place, I am in complete agreement that I do not need to return there in the future. Free doesn't mean you get to treat people that way or lie about what actually happened.
