I had DJS surgery with Dr. Relle at LACOMS 13 months ago and it was hands down the WORST decision I've ever made in my life. TLDR: Dr. Relle’s surgery has left me unable to chew, with my jaw misaligned and my mouth opening lopsided, an open bite, and he refuses to acknowledge his errors and instead says my treatment was “well within the standard of care.”

I had a receding jaw and a narrow airway. My main motivation was a more pleasing profile, but there were underlying airway issue that Dr. Relle said the surgery needed to get done. I had reflux as well, and there was a hope that this surgery might address that, but it most certainly did not.

After my surgery I could immediately tell that something was off, and at my first post-op appointment I told Dr. Relle that my jaws were misaligned and coming into contact improperly. My concerns were dismissed, and continued to be dismissed for 6 months despite repeatedly telling him that my jaws were misaligned. In July I finally went to another surgeon and found out I would need revision. Despite repeated attempts to get Dr. Relle to take my concerns seriously, I was dismissed.

I also told Dr. Relle a month or so after surgery that I was repeatedly getting sick, but that concern was also dismissed, with him telling me I just caught a bad cold. I told him repeatedly that I might have an infection and he repeatedly told me I didn't. I finally went to another ENT who told me that I had a sinus infection for a couple months and I had to go on weeks of antibiotics. Unfortunately, because of that, I still have the sinus infection to this day and have been sick more times than I can count this past year.

My occlusion was perfect before surgery. Now, over a year later, I still can't chew my food and have to blend salads if I want to eat one, my teeth are grinding down improperly because my jaws aren't coming together properly, I've developed bad TMJ issues for the same reason, and my mouth is beginning to open more and more crookedly. I'm now looking at revision surgery, TMJ surgery, and potential sinus surgery.

I also now have to undergo at least 20 months of braces, which is putting me out of work as both an actor and a voiceover artist because I can't speak without lisping.

I've been in near constant pain for a year and the amount of money it's going to cost to fix the damage that's been done is astronomical, not to mention the amount that I paid to get this surgery done in the first place. And to give you a sense of the aesthetic results, I sent someone else a picture and their response was, "WTF, that's your AFTER?"

I can't begin to express the level of depression this surgery has caused from the constant pain, the sickness, the worsening jaw problems, the lackluster aesthetic results, and the knowledge that I paid the equivalent of a house down payment to get this surgery and knowing I need to now pay a lot more to get it fixed on top of the money I've already spent with all the new consultations and stop-gaps. I have never in my life had a worse medical experience than I did with Dr. Relle. I can't go back and undo my mistake of choosing him as my surgeon, but I think it’s important for others to know so they can make a well-informed decision before they put themselves in the ”care” of a doctor like this.

I was referred to Dr. Relle by an oral surgeon in Dallas, prior to my relocation to California. The transition was seamless, and experience was better than expected. I had double jaw surgery completed by Dr. Relle in December 2019. The staff was very helpful, professional, prompt, and transparent with what to expect, and throughout the entire process. Six months post-op I am pleased with the results, and cannot thank Dr. Relle and his team for all of their support. Would highly recommend for any oral surgery needs.

Dr. Relle is a master of his skill in OMFS. I waited 20 years to decide to finally have double jaw surgery in April 2022 and without a doubt, I’m glad I went to Dr. Relle. He’s not only an incredible surgeon, he’s also very kind, compassionate, and truly cares about his patients. I was left with a corrected bite, better function/airway and natural, improved aesthetics. My recovery was smooth and quick. His treatment coordinator and assistant were also fantastic.

Dr. Relle is hands down one of the best if not the best maxillofacial surgeons around. Him and his staff are one of the best in the healthcare I have experienced. I had double jaw surgery with Dr. Relle and everything went exactly as planned. In my specific case, I didn't experience any of the risks of the surgery post op (I had full feeling post surgery). Dr. Relle will do everything to allow you to understand the possible options on your specific case and will take the time to address any concerns you have. The office uses advanced technologies to make sure everything is as accurate pre and post operation. Before all of this I visited Dr. Relle several times and he was able to address all my concerns while visually explaining things to me. I am very grateful for him and his staffs support and knowledge. I was contemplating my decision for surgery for some time and I am very happy I made the decision to go through it with Dr. Relle as my surgeon.

I got my surgery done about 2 years ago, and everyday since I have been so so pleased with the results. Not only is Dr. Relle an extremely talented surgeon, he is one of the kindest doctors that you will ever meet. He makes it extremely clear that he cares about each and every individual patient. He set aside so much time out of his busy schedule to answer each and everyone of my questions. Naturally, I was quite worried to go through with the surgery. But doctor Relle's care, compassion, and wisdom made me comfortable. After the surgery, I recovered well with absolutely excellent results. I am so glad I went to Doctor Relle for this surgery.

My daughter had lower jaw surgery with Dr Relle in May 2019. We are so happy we decided to go with him even though he was out of network and we live in San Jose, CA so we had to travel to LA. It was absolutely worth it. We saw many surgeons and he is the BEST. The pre-surgery, surgery and post -surgery were all handled with utmost care. The team is very responsive and Janet was super helpful in helping us schedule the surgery date, answering all our questions and helping with insurance coverage. Dr Walline also assisted in the surgery and it was great to know that there's more than one great jaw surgeon on the team. I highly recommend them.

Dr. Relle and his staff are amazing! I had double jaw surgery to correct a very large open bite and am extremely satisfied with the professionalism and care that was given. Besides being able to bite thru food now the biggest improvement is how much my airway opened, it has been life changing. I no longer snore at night, receive a better nights sleep, and feel like I have more energy during the day. I also met with Dr. Lee in the hospital post-op and for a follow up appointment, just as professional as Dr. Relle. I can not recommend Dr. Relle enough.

Dr. Relle and his work are absolutely phenomenal. I was an emergency trauma patient of his back when he worked at Kaiser maybe 7-8 years ago. I needed reconstructive face surgery and he was my doctor. I never got the chance to thank him for fixing my face!. I strongly recommend this doctor. He was kind , patient and understanding. He has made me look the way I used to look when I was afraid I wouldn't due to getting shot I'm the face. Thank you so much Dr. Relle!!!!! God bless you
