FYI Review for My Hometown/San Pedro location (previous “DDS. McKlendon” sold her practice mid 2024 but High older reviews factored in ?).
Ok place if you are ok paying out of pocket for incomplete check ups (no oral cancer or dental pocket screenings), cleaning.

Do not waste time, money here on any major dental problems.
I had a Severe Dental problem this practice diagnosed, treated (high out of pocket expense w/no itemized receipt) & all of it immediately escalated into a Severe Pain emergency plus chronic severe Professional dental
PAIN NEGLECT —
all despite their own diagnosis, “treatment” visits, immediate referral to specialists, confirmation of first available/booked specialist appointment being days away.
All calls, in person visits to this “practice” for prescription pain management requests were completely NEGLECTED repeatedly.
I communicated their failed Mega doses of over the counter mixed meds recommended protocol had not only failed to address any severe pain —lead to projectile vomiting, over 1k Emergency room visit plus another triage dental visit w/another dentist elsewhere. My multiple Xrays, exams & elevated blood pressure during more than one visit there showed I had acute dental pain (problem) & their diagnosis was correct. Complete Dental pain neglect with a “cannot be bothered-wasting my time” front desk “rude/angry lady”.
(as noted by another recent reviewer).
Note: There is ZERO after hours dental assistance — not as an established “diagnosed” treated patient either.
EX: Their Answering service will tell you to keep calling back during business hrs (inaccurately listed online 7am-7pm)—It’s 11am (physical appointment opening at this location) & will not return your “emergency voicemail”online texts/your location voicemail messages/don’t answer calls.

Tip: Plan to take a half/full day off for any non emergency visits —
Extended wait times are the norm on Your easily online booked appt (one star earned!).
Plus notice their 7-7 “office hours” are likely never available—offer 11am, last appt at 2-3pm weekdays.
I Appreciated the previous incomplete routine visits w/the knowledgeable newer hygienist. Your dentist recommendations are appreciated.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at my recent dental cleaning and cavity filling with Dr. Nguyen and Teresa. From start to finish, everything was handled with care and professionalism. Teresa was amazing—she made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedure and explained everything clearly, which really put me at ease. Dr. Nguyen did an incredible job with my cavity; it was quick, painless, and thorough. He also took the time to assess my gums and gave me an honest, straightforward evaluation, which I really appreciated. It’s clear he genuinely cares about his patients’ overall oral health.

Alyssa at the front desk deserves a special shoutout too! She was super chill and so helpful with scheduling my appointments. Her warm, friendly demeanor made the whole process so smooth and stress-free.

Overall, this team is outstanding. I felt well taken care of every step of the way, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for exceptional dental care. Thank you, Teresa, Dr. Nguyen, and Alyssa—you all are the best!

Had my teeth cleaned and had an exam by the new dentist here, Dr Parra. He quickly identified a serious problem with one of my teeth and suggested a crown to address it. I will follow up in 2 weeks to have the work done.

My family had been patients of Dr. McClenndon for more than 15 years. I am so disappointed that she sold her practice to this company. They have done nothing but lie since my first interaction with them. After inquiring about increased additional charges I found out that Hometown Dentist is not in net work with my insurance. That would have nice to know up front!! They also caused our very favorite hygienist to leave. We will not be back.

I absolutely hate going to the dentist! However, Hometown Dentist has always treated me with much care and patience. I’m nearly 70 and my teeth are in wonderful shape, thanks to their care for over 15 years! I highly recommend their practice!

Dr Try Nguyen was very kind and compassionate. He seems quite knowledgeable & I needed a new retainer made since wearing Dandy clear aligners last year & the retainer I got from a previous dentist at his office didn’t fit properly (thus the 4 stars & not 5) Theresa is always the best.

I made an appointment for pain and discomfort, within 15 minutes of the appointment the problem was identified and a plan of treatment was offered (wisdom tooth removal) within another 15 minuets, they started the procedure and not only was it painless, but quick! Maybe 10 minuets itself. I was home an hour after my appointment started.

All questions and concerns (I’m 20 weeks pregnant) were answered and I wasn’t unsure about moving forward with the removal. I’m sure I’ll be back for future appointments.

Formerly Dr. McClendon staffs sends via text as reminder to her patient of their scheduled appointment, and her staff is always on time seeing their patients, and she also sends a complimentary gifts for her patients visits. I was kinda disappointed that these things did not apply with this new management. But the good thing is, they were informative about what needed to be done for the next visit.
