I usually do not write reviews, but I think here it is necessary to warn people from this clinic. I was referred here by my dentist to get a consultation from an oral surgeon. I scheduled my appointment 10 days ago. Since I never got any confirmation, I called today in the morning to make sure my appointment is still happening, and they confirmed that it will. 2 hours later I got a call that the surgeon is not working in this clinic anymore and is moving to their SF clinic and they don’t know if/when I can get another appointment. They didn’t know that 10 days ago? Also, the lady on the call did not offer any new appointment No “I am sorry”, no “we will try our best to get you an appointment as fast as possible”. Nothing. After I said I would like to get a new appointment scheduled today for the foreseeable future or I will have to look for another surgeon she said I should just look for somebody else because they are busy and hung up. I have never encountered somebody this unprofessional.

This particular business earned its stellar reputation based on the founder, Dr. Hoghoogi's amazing work and patient care. The primary surgeon now seems to be Dr. Karis Lee. The experience will not be as good as it previously was. Since the change, it seems that their concern for pain management after surgery has decreased. They provided a form that was out of date that did not inquire about whether standard pain medications were tolerated by the patient. They are not. They did not take responsibility to correct the situation. They prescribed 12 hours of pain management medication that contained Tylenol that could not be used. This left the patient with absolutely no pain medication after a very painful oral surgery. Their level of care was extremely low. They provided false information that the pharmacy would not allow them to send in different pain medication (this was 3 days after the incorrect prescription was sent it)--which absolutely does not seem to be the case based on calls we made. They said the patient needed to be seen in order to access any appropriate pain management but did not urgently offer an appointment--only one 3 days later. They said they would not provide any further pain medication. In the meantime, the patient was in agony. If you do decide to consult with them, I recommend that you have a very clear discussion about the post-surgical pain management plan. These surgeries are very, very painful and they seem to have almost no care for the comfort and well being of their patients. I would recommend that you go somewhere else.

I've had two procedures with Dr Hoghooghi over the years and they have been very smooth. Fast healing and no complications. His staff have also been great.

We have seen Dr. Hoghooghi for an emergency (years ago) and wisdom teeth extraction in September. For the last surgery, we had to pay up front because the primary's birthday came earlier in the year and they don't accept that plan (that's the insurance thing for making the "primary", I know - not the office's fault). Our secondary is Delta Dental which they (at the time of appointment accept). They let us pay an estimate of what they thought Delta wouldn't cover (we were told that they'd charge us Delta prices). We have not received any reimbursement from them yet despite contacting them in December after the primary went through. I got notice that Delta dental went through so I followed up with the office in January (twice - put on hold and forgotten about the first call). All in all they said they'd follow up with me. It's been 6 months, so I called back and was told I do have what looks like a refund, but the insurance was still screwed up (this was what I was told in January and just to wait it out). 5 stars for Dr. H. -2 stars for lack of follow-up by office staff.

My consultation was so fast. I explained my dentist's concerns the surgeon looked in my mouth and said "yea they should come or you'll be back in few years in pain" less than 5mins that was it. He acted like he better things to do.

I only went there because my dentist referred them because they were close so I'm not blaming her for my experience.

They didn't give me an estimate or anything just it could 4K so I was like never mind

A month later I called to actually try and get an estimate and they were just like they took my insurance and shouldn't be a problem blah blah blah I made my appointment 2.5 months out called after a month because I didn't get any confirmation and I was told I'd get something 2 weeks out and 1 week out received nothing.

So I called again was told I'd receive something 3 days prior surgery date, the estimate and after care which is convenient for them cause it's 3 days to cancel without a fee. So 3 days before I get an estimate of $1,500. Now I think if I been calling and trying to get information for that's something they could've told me way ahead of time not 3 days before. That was enough for me I cancelled the surgery and decided to look for another surgeon. AND I DID.

My surgery is in a few months but the consultation was so informative. She took my X-ray and explained how my nerve went below so it didn't require a 3D X-ray because otherwise they would need to see exactly where the nerve was so they wouldn't mess it up. That little bit made my jaw drop cause I'm thinking why didn't the first doctor do that? She went through the care process and options I had for putting a temporary like filling to protect the openings during the healing process. Explained the risks of not taking care of my mouth after.

And she was just very thorough and acted like she really cared which I appreciate. And the staff sat me down and explained the paperwork and my cost. LESS THAN $600

So not sure what exactly sure what Palo Alto Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery was charging me for that would be $1,500 out of my pocket. And the staff seem sweet but unorganized, and a pretentious vibe in the office. This was a learning experience for me to shop around and do research.

Dr. Hoghooghi and his staff are FANTASTIC. I needed a very complicated surgery to remove my wisdom teeth, and the staff got me in the office for a consultation ASAP and scheduled my surgery for the soonest day possible (I was in a lot of pain).

The doctor is very serious and professional, he walked me through everything that he was going to do and I got out of there very quickly with absolutely no pain. He brought me in for several follow ups to make sure my extractions healed well, and he was patient and kind with me. He was reassuring, too.

Office is sparkling clean, receptionists are friendly and accommodating, overall experience was great!

Hopefully I don't have any more dental problems, but if I do, this is my go-to doctor!

My son had an impacted wisdom tooth that was at risk for infection. We were referred to Dr. Hoghooghi by our dentist and he did a great job. Appointments were available quickly, COVID protocols were followed seriously, and the procedure itself was done very smoothly. My son had the usual swelling etc, but it was much less painful than we had feared - painkillers for just 3 days post surgery.

We did have to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed by our insurance, and that part of it was more tooth pulling than the actual extraction 🙂
