Renate Gangel was my dentist at Select Dental. Renate understands her role and what is expected of her, her job is NOT to provide patients with the care that they deserve but is rather to make as much money as humanly possible. Renate is good at her job, she is willing to lie to you, pressure you into paying money for a procedure that you don’t need or perhaps don’t want, and is willing to overcharge you and your insurance company whenever the opportunity arises.

I filed a grievance case with my insurance provider when I was charged $935.00 for a crown. My insurance provider (Delta Dental) concluded that I was indeed OVERCHARGED and that Select Dental did not comply with their contractual protocols (the crown costs $195.00 through my insurance). My insurance made sure that I was issued a refund but the entire ordeal was time consuming, frustrating and to be honest, humiliating. I know we all think that we are able to tell when someone is trying to take advantage of us but being that they are a dentist, you want to believe what they are telling you. It sucks when you figure out that what they have been telling you is in fact a lie.

Please heed my advice and look elsewhere if you are considering going to this dentist practice. If you step through their door, you are putting yourself at risk.

Be aware, they frequently change your date and or time of your appointments. They always seem to have an excuse as to why. They have adjusted the last 3 appointments I have had with them all usually only 2 days before they date and time even after they asked for confirmation that I will be at the appointment 1 week earlier.

I am terrified of dentists. I needed a back tooth pulled and was scared to have it done. Dr. B pulled my tooth. It was actually a very pleasant experience. I didn't feel the shots when he numbed my mouth. I also did not feel him pull the tooth out. I did not feel any yanking of the tooth. He said, "we're done." I asked, "did you pull out the tooth?" He said, " yes." I was stunned and so happy. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a tooth pulled. He's an excellent dentist!

After 35 years, I finally found a dental office that I feel comfortable going to! From the front desk employee Priscilla, to the dental hygienist Lucy, and Dr. Salo. Everyone I've encountered there so far has been super caring, attentive, informative, and takes their time on your care.

I've suffered with TMJ recently so I scheduled a consult with Dr. Salo. Priscilla was able to schedule me as soon as possible and everything ran smoothly. He discovered what was going on with my bite and teeth and how it was affecting my facial muscles. He discussed a step by step solution for me. I am currently on their plan to make it better and what a difference it has made so far! I am no longer clenching my teeth during my sleep and my face feels more relaxed.

Thank you so much to Dr. Salo and his team! Because of you, I feel so much relief and I am so grateful to have found you. 10/10 recommend Select Dental in Torrance!

I had the pleasure of working with this dentist office and I was extremely pleased. The office is clean and comfortable. The staff is amazing and make you feel very at ease when visiting. They do their best to do a quick and efficient job and work with you afterwards to make sure everything is okay, they even informed my husband on what needed to happen, which I really appreciated.
I had the please of working with Dr. Oscar Alonzo as my dental surgeon. He and his team made sure I understood everything before we started and even cracked some jokes in the beginning. It was really nice. I would 100% recommend them to others.

I was referred to this office to see an oral surgeon named Dr. Oscar Alonzo. From the start of the visit I was very impressed with how professional and nice the assistants were. None of them had attitudes or spoke to you in a rude way. Doctor Oscar explained everything that needed to be done to get me to perfect oral health. Within days there was an opening to do the surgery. I was terrified but they all assured me that they would take good care of me and that everything would be fine. After the procedure they were all very thorough with the steps I needed to take to make sure I took good care of the operated area. To top it off the prices were reasonable and I was able to get what I needed done. Everyone in that office should be proud of themselves and of the good work they bring forth because it is hard work working in the dental field. Thank you for all the amazing attitudes you guys had. Great team.

Dr. Salo and his team are amazing to say the least. I had an emergency situation that most offices would probably want to avoid and they not only took care of me same day, but also did an amazing job. Everyone in the office participates in patient care and satisfaction and they truly care about their patients' having a positive experience. I highly recommend them for any type of dental work-- especially root canals and bridges.
