Great experience with the team and Tess as my hygienist! The team makes process a breeze and do everything they can to make you feel comfortable. New patient visits are a bit longer due to the intake process but you can appreciate the thorough background and imaging take.

They also offer several cosmetic procedures for those interested without pressuring you into anything you’re not ready for, and they offer 2 hour parking validation in the Seaholm garage.

I have nothing but great things to say about Toothbar. Most recently, I had to have an emergency crown put in and my dental insurance didn’t cover any of it, so I had to pay out of pocket, but the part they should have covered was not what they should have paid. Jeremy at the front desk not only took the time to kindly explain my insurance and the costs, but we realized another discrepancy in the bill. It’s this extra time and attention that really means the world because so often I pay healthcare bills without questioning them because I don’t understand them, especially after such a high out of pocket bill. I so much appreciate his understanding with my stress in owing more money than I’d already paid, his follow up call to me once he looked into it further, his explanation of my insurance, and his overall kindness and patience to making a stressful situation less so. Thank you again, Jeremy! 💕 it’s very refreshing to know you all are on our side!

Unprofessional Billing Practices and Zero Accountability

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Toothbar in Austin. Over a year ago, I received a filling and was quoted an $800 contribution for my portion of the cost, which I agreed to and received the treatment.

Fast forward nearly 11 months, and I’m now being hit with an additional $750 bill. According to Toothbar, this extra charge is due to their error: they originally provided a quote based on the wrong material, leading to incorrect billing.

It’s unacceptable to burden a patient with nearly double the initial agreed-upon cost due to internal miscommunication and mistakes. Rather than taking responsibility for their error, Toothbar is now trying to force me into an unexpected financial position long after the treatment was completed. I urge anyone considering their services to proceed with caution and insist on transparent, accurate pricing from the start.

Dr. Bakke is really great. I like that she comes around to face you when talking to you as opposed to other dentists I have had who talk to you while sitting behind you. The rest of the staff are also really pleasant. Thanks, Toothbar!

Dr. J was so nice. She explained everything to me very thoroughly and really listened to everything I said. She gave me a lot of options to choose from for my teeth. Highly recommend because of her.

Today was a weird experience in this office and I won’t be returning again. The customer service by the staff unprofessional in so many ways.

Late service delivery:

I’ve been a patient here for some period of time and always came to appointments on time. Generally when I arrive to appointments the dentist always starts late (15-20 mins late on average) and the dentist is generally double booked. However I’m always patient considering my service always starts late when I’m on time.

Non-transparent billing practices:

I came to get my permanent retainer bracket replaced about two weeks ago and had a strange experience where their billing department did not submit my claim to my insurance and as a result overcharged me by 50%. The guy who works in the front told me the reason he “couldn’t” submit my claim to insurance was because it was related to orthodontics, which made absolutely no sense at all. I requested the billing department submit my claim to insurance to discover I was charged double the price. I then found out from the office manager that the dentist was out of network. Which was a completely different story the guy in the front explained to me.

Their staff needs more training to understand billing best practices and that you should always submit a claim to insurance for every service provided otherwise it comes off as unethical because you can charge more when billing someone without considering their insurance discount. With all of this, I still decided to give this practice a try.

Today, November 26th, I was running 18 mins late to appointment due to an emergency. This is the first time I’ve ever been late with all of my appointments. I was courteous enough to call ahead of time and inform the front office. I was informed the window is 15 minutes and since I would be 3 minutes outside of the window the dentist states she couldn’t see me. I decided to show up anyway since I would only be 3 minutes outside of the policy timeframe. When I arrived, I was not greeted by any of the staff or the dentist when she walked to the front when I was talking to the office manager (keep in mind it was four staff members in front). Instead of greeting me, I received looks from the staff as if I would be a “problem”, which is a very outdated frequency notion we should all steer away from in 2024.

I spoke with the office manager and she was kind enough to accommodate me and allow me to be seen.

If you attend this office, make sure they’re billing your insurance for every claim.

Moving forward, you should hold your employees to the same time standard that you hold your patients to. Meaning employees should start appointments timely and use their best judgment when enforcing the policy on patients. Today was not a good look for this office and I personally refuse to engage with a dental practice who has employees with outdated mentalities.

My wife has extreme dentist anxiety, and finding someone who can help her feel comfortable is always a challenge. Dr. Danielle Gibbons at Toothbar exceeded all expectations! She was incredibly patient, understanding, and went out of her way to make sure my wife was calm throughout the entire visit. Not only did Dr. Gibbons do a fantastic job with her treatment, but she was also kind and gentle, which made all the difference. We’re so grateful to have found her, and I highly recommend Dr. Gibbons to anyone, especially if you’re nervous about seeing the dentist!
