DID IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO MY TEETH!! Several years ago when I was a college student at the UMN, my retainers broke and I needed a new pair. This seemed like a nice location close to campus. I had new retainers made there and the fit was checked by Dr. Bates. I noticed my new retainers did not cover any of my four farthest back molars and even specifically asked about this fact, but Dr. Bates assured me this didn't matter. Fast forward several years later of diligently wearing my retainers and it absolutely does matter. I now have an open bite from my rear molars not being included in the retainers. Horrible, awful advice received from this place that has opened me up to an issue that can't be fixed without more ortho.

Dr. Bates has been such a welcoming orthodontist. I had braces for almost three years with him and his team, and throughout my time there, I have only experienced great treatments! Dr. Bates is a fun guy and holds lovely conversations! I totally recommend Bates Orthodontics if you are looking for a fun doctor who is highly skilled in what he does!

Dr. Bates has terrible bedside manner. My brother went to see him for an orthodontic evaluation and Dr. Bates told him he needs to get his teeth fixed “if he ever wants to procreate.” This was incredibly insensitive and unprofessional. I don’t know if Bates never outgrew bullying or whether he thinks straight teeth is the determining factor of whether you would be a good parent. Regardless, he would benefit from some sensitivity training. I would not recommend him unless you’re interested in some verbal abuse.

Dr. Bates is an amazing Orthodontist! I enjoyed and looked forward to every appointment. All of Dr. Bate's assistants were amazing as well. Through my 2 years of having my braces, I was able to bond with all of the assistants along with Dr. Bates. I am still grateful and appreciative of how well the end results of my teeth came out. I highly recommend Dr. Bates for your dental cosmetic needs!

I’ve been seeing doc Bates since 2014. 2014-16 Hugo and twice at the university location recently) Him and his hygienist have all been lovely. Susan the front desk staff has been lesson satisfactory. Every step of the way she poorly communicated and has an attitude. It’s awful to have someone like that front facing for a business. When you start off your interaction with Susan, the rest of the appointment is already a 3/10 experience. Would go back to the Hugo location for any other work.

Dr. Bates is friendly and professional. I've had braces for 2 1/2 years and I love my teeth now. Every appointment I've had with Dr. Bates was quick and efficient. Price was reasonable and I can not recommend him enough!
