We will not return because the office is not child friendly or welcoming to those with disabilities. Dr. Maixiner was nice, as was the hygienist my youngest child saw. All the kids teeth are clean so they get 3 stars. The staff / stations seem to be shared with another dentist. If not, I cannot understand why nothing in the office appears to be pediatric. There are no toys in the lobby. The entire place looks like a sterile, adult dental office. We moved recently and we miss our previous dental office that had super sweet staff and Disney+ on iPads. I was told to come 10 minutes early for paperwork that took much longer. I was early and as soon as I started documentation they whisked one of my kids away for a cleaning. The front office staff mentioned I needed to inform a secondary insurance that the primary insurance doesn’t cover these cleanings. Why in the last decade at our other dentist was this never an issue? Here, she said they’d have to wait for a denial from initial before secondary would pay. I’m not a biller! How would I know?! They didn’t ask if I was ok with them taking x-rays or fluoride treatment. All of this is going on with additional unoccupied kids (remember, no toys) distracting me from half an hour of questionnaires on a tablet. The doctor missed (until I asked) a tooth on the x-ray that indicated further referrals may be needed. They told my disabled children they couldn’t eat for a period of time but no one mentioned it to me. None of these things alone would have detracted from the office, we’d probably have returned. One of my kids was sitting on the floor crying to get another ball out of their machine. I was being patient, reinforcing the big feelings of a disabled toddler. Instead of offering another token for a 5 cent ball (that I would gave happily paid $1M for at that point!), a hygienist came and asked me to move to the lobby because we were disturbing others. Unbelievable.

My daughter is autistic and has multiple special needs. Seeing a dentist can be an awful, anxiety filled experience for her. The staff and doctor at Wee Care was competent, diligent, understanding, very patient, and took extra care and time with my daughter catering as much as possible to her all her individual needs. I was impressed by the genuine interest in her comfort and their above and beyond efforts to ease her anxiety. I would highly recommend Wee Care if you are searching for a very kid friendly, professional clinic. If your child has autism there is no place in Alaska that I'm aware of that provides this level of care for special needs kiddos.

Dr. Maixner is an outstanding pediatric dentist and his assistant is outstanding and highly trained. Our 18 month old granddaughter fell and chipped her tooth. Once our daughter left a message for Dr. Maixner he called back within a few minutes, he asked relevant questions, and answered our daughters questions. The office was able to get us in the very next day, they were so great with our little granddaughter, and her tooth was beautifully repaired. We are very thankful!
