Terrible experience. I went in for an emergency appointment, and was given a treatment plan for a root canal, with an out of pocket cost that was higher than I could pay in one day.
I was upset that there was no other options for making payments, besides applying for a care credit credit card, and left.
The office manager called me back and said that I could have an “emergency” root canal and the cost was dramatically lower, so I agreed to come back in the following day.
I came back, and was taken to the room to get ready, and was talking to the assistant as he was setting up when he asked if I had any questions. I said yes, and asked why this emergency option that was cheaper wasn’t offered before? It was at this point that I was made aware that it was not even the same procedure, and that they were only killing the nerve. That I would have to come back when I could afford the root canal or when my tooth would inevitably break.
This lead me to say no to this procedure, because it has not the treatment that I agreed to after my conversation with the manager the day before. So I got up to leave again, but not before talking to the dentist who had the audacity to say that HE explained this me.
No you did not sir, your office manger did, and this not being a root canal was not communicated at all.
So for the second time, I had spent two hours of driving, except this time I also had to spring for the cost of a babysitter for my three kids. So much energy and hope wasted as I am still in an incredible amount of pain.
Even my insurance company was shocked when I called them to go over the coding and costs, and explained that they would not work with me on the upfront cost.
After I spent additional time with my insurance going over all the codes and costs of my treatment plan, they told me that his contracted rates were less than what was listed on my treatment plan.
Additionally, they had asked why I was not given any alternatives to make the procedure cheaper, example being metal crowns vs porcelain white etc.
To which I didn’t have an answer. This would have been my first major dental procedure, I didn’t know what to ask or understand that there was different things that could help.
I called these guys because my husband had gone here for an emergency and made payments to them, so for me, this whole experience was shocking.
So after talking to my insurance company and another emergency dentist in town, they both recommended going to someone else anyways because root canals should be done by specialists.
Which after my experience here as a whole, I will gladly do, and I recommend anyone else do the same.

Lastly, had things been communicated to me properly on that phone call on Friday, I would have tried to make plans to see a different dentist that day and/or Saturday so I wouldn’t be stuck like this through the weekend.
I know some people have good experiences here, but mine was terrible, and it seems after talking to my insurance and another dentist in town that there are better options in town.

South Anchorage Dental is a great place to go! I had a wonderful experience and they are so efficient. I really like that they have such open availability and don’t make you wait 3+ weeks like most doctor/dental offices these days.

I did the “text to make an appointment” on their website and they were able to squeeze me in literally the next day. After my cleaning I learned I needed a cavity filled (which usually calls for another scheduled appointment) and they were able to do it same day!! Can’t say how much I appreciate that.

Thanks so much South Anchorage Dental! I will definitely be back in 6 months for the next cleaning.

I love this dental center. We walked in 8 minutes late to our appt but they still greeted us with smiles and took us in. My brother was in so much pain and they were willing to take care of us even though we had difficulties on our side they made sure we walked out with smiles…. Excellent customer service! A definite recommend 100/10!

I am one of those people who has an irrational fear of dentists. My fear is due to past experiences but has impacted every dental experience throughout my life. Needless to say, I am very picky when it comes to choosing a dentist. The South Anchorage Dental team from when you walk in to when you walk out, are stellar. Of course, you are still at the dentist and if the procedures stack up, I am the only one responsible for that. The South Anchorage Dental team is observant, sensitive to my needs/fears, and thorough.
